Steve Lucky's HAMMOND CHEESE COMBO
This isn't your everyday organ combo sandwich. Oh yeah, it's got a lot of the same tasty ingredients you've tried and liked before. Like the groovy B3 sound, bad-ass tenor sax, soul-jazz grooves and a fat, yet slinky guitar. But dig what makes the Hammond Cheese different...this combo's got the special sauce! And while we can't divulge the secret blend that makes the special sauce special, we can tell you this; the Hammond Cheese Combo does have extra cheese and extra grease. Steve Lucky's Hammond Cheese Combo performs '60s soul-jazz; the kind of greasy, groovy jazz you can sink your teeth into.
Some of the specials on our menu include tunes by the unrecognized organ genius Hank Marr, knockouts by Brother Jack McDuff & Jimmy Smith, original pieces by Steve Lucky dripping with special sauce, and some extra cheese numbers sung by the captivating guitarist/vocalist Carmen Getit.
Steve Lucky started playing organ in 1995 after decades of playing piano with a powerful left hand bass. His soulful approach to jazz organ grounds the Hammond Cheese repertoire solidly. Carmen Getit's unique guitar style and sultry vocals are acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. Lucky formed the Hammond Cheese Combo in 1996, including performances at San Francisco Jazz. The current lineup has been performing and touring together since 2017 and also features phenom Kamrin Ortiz on tenor sax, and Ted-talk renowned Greg Wyser-Pratte on drums, each of them bringing bold grooves and delightful solos to the mix.
This fabulous quintet honors the blue note, hard bop tradition of the 1960’s and beyond.
